Academy of Finland's grant to Parviainen's project "Struggling with Ignorance"

The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Culture and Society decided to fund the project “Struggling with Ignorance: Negative Expertise and the Erosion of the Finnish Information Society at the Turn of 2020” (NEGATE) the four-year period of 2018-2022. The Academy of Finland funds cutting-edge and innovative research aiming at significant scientific breakthroughs. The Academy is the main funding body for scientific research in Finland. It receives an increasing amount of multidisciplinary applications each year. Often, the phenomena that are being studied require expertise in many different disciplines.

In 2018, Research Council for Culture and Society decided to fund 35 projects, some of which are research consortia formed of researchers in several institutions. The University of Tampere got seven new Academy of Finland -funded projects, including the NEGATE-project, in cultural and social sciences. In Academy of Finland -funded projects, researchers receive funding for hiring a research group, research costs, and for co-operation in Finland and internationally.
