Traumatized Adolescents Seeking Asylum
This project is funded by key project funding from the Academy of Finland for 2016–2018.
The aim of the project is to develop a model of trauma care in units for minor asylum seekers. During the pilot study, a first phase of trauma care based on stabilization will be organized in reception units (group homes) and temporary accommodation units (family group homes) for minor asylum seekers. In the second phase, specialized trauma-focused therapeutic care will be offered for the most severely traumatized adolescents by trained therapists.
Research utilization: All units for minor asylum seekers in Finland will receive a Work Book on the model of trauma care in units for minor asylum seekers based on the pilot study and produced by the project. It will describe in detail how the units can organize stabilizing interventions for their clients by themselves and how they can seek help for the most traumatized adolescents. The Work Book will be translated into English and Swedish and used in Nordic collaboration. The project will enhance the implementation of legislation on minor asylum seekers’ right to health care.
