Rehearsal 1

26.3.2013 – Rehearsal 1

Working with two programs, the point in space-program and trigger points-program. Here are the exercises performed in the workshops described:

Point in space – exercise 1
There is a point in space that you can not see. When you get closer to the point, a buzzing sound will get louder, if you move further away, the sound will get quitter. If you find the point, there will be a sharp sound, and a new point will appear in space in a random spot. Try to find the point.

Point in space – exercise 2
Make a short performance with the program. The performance should have at least two parts: a narrative part (the sound and action tell a story); a movement part (the sound influences movement by some attribute)

Trigger points – exercise 1
There are 15 trigger point in your body, that trigger different sounds, when a point hits another point. Find the trigger points.

Trigger points – exercise 2
Make a short performance by triggering sounds with the trigger points. The performance should have at least three parts: a quiet part (movement, but no sounds); a controlled part (trigger sounds in an organized and controlled manner); full fiesta (move freely, triggering sounds randomly, without consideration)

Exercise observations and further development ideas:
Point in space
– Could the point in space be moving, instead of being stationary? Could the performer be stationary? Would there be a feeling of the point trying to find the performer?
– Using both hands to find the point
– Sound variations: speech, laughter, comments on the movement/manners/physical appearance/etc of the performer

Trigger points
– Could the number of trigger points be controlled by the performer?
– Could the distance to the trigger point modify the sound in some manner?
– Scene changes from predetermined trigger points

Ideas for scenes:
– Bugs: there are invisible bug/bugs flying around in the space. If both of your hands hit the bug, it will die. Kill all the bugs!
– I caught something!: there is a sound between your palms. You can just hear it, if you carefully open your palms, but don’t let it fly away!
– Reaction: trigger reactions in relationship to your performance
– Breathe: movement speed of different parts of your body produce different kinds of breathing sounds
– Fiesta!: body percussion with random sounds
– Point in space: try to find a hidden point in space. The sound will guide you. Use both of your hands.

General ideas, stuff to try out later:
– Projection on top of the performer with the trigger point program
– Subtle changes – mood changes – fades between scenes/sounds
